bwHPC is the federated high performance computing infrastructure for universities in Baden-Württemberg. Before you can use a bwHPC cluster, the University of Mannheim requires a one-time export control clearance — your HPC Entitlement. This portal handles that first step.
How to get access
Get Entitlement
Sign the Compliance Declaration, write a brief project abstract, and submit your application here. An administrator will review and approve it.

Register on Cluster
Follow the registration instructions in the bwHPC Wiki to create your account on the cluster.

Steps 1 and 2 can be done in parallel. Step 3 requires both to be completed.
What you need
- A valid University of Mannheim account (Uni-ID)
- The signed Compliance Declaration PDF (log in to download)
- A brief description of your research project (abstract)
After your entitlement is approved
Your entitlement is delivered automatically via bwIDM. No separate confirmation step is needed.
To start using a cluster, follow the registration instructions in the bwHPC Wiki for the system you want to use.
Which cluster?
bwUniCluster is open to all research areas. Fill out the bwUniCluster questionnaire on ZAS — no Rechenvorhaben needed.
bwForClusters (Helix, JUSTUS 2, NEMO 2, BinAC 2) are specialized by research area and require a Rechenvorhaben submitted by your group leader on the ZAS portal.
